"I am proud to be a hamburger"

Barry Bergmann, legendary hamburger runner
"I still bother with runners I call hamburgers. They're never going to run any record times, but they can always fulfill their own potential."

Bill Bowerman, Legendary University of Oregon track coach
Running has been something I have enjoyed, and gotten more serious about as I have gotten older. I wish I would have been more disciplined about it at an earlier age but better late than never...right?

A number of positive things have resulted from running. I am healthier (weight, blood pressure (105/65), heart rate (55-60), however, it has not helped me grow hair. I guess you can't have everything.

Although my best marathon is certainly not world-class caliber at 3:41 I do fairly well in my age bracket -- geezer division-- usually coming in the top 10% - 20%. For someone who was never much of an athlete, this does a world of good for my confidence, not just in running but in most everything else I do.

I am a member of a running club in Japan called
Namban Rengo with alot faster runners than me. However, it has served to be a motivator as well as meeting alot of great people.

I don't know how long I can run marathons but I will continue until my body tells me to stop or I stop enjoying it. Hopefully, both of these events will be far in the future.
Upcoming Marathon:

Boston April 16, 2012

2007 Boston Marathon

Hopefully I will look better (and finish faster) in 2012
